On a quiet Friday night, January 4, 2019, we heard a major explosion on our front porch. It sounded like someone had bombed our porch, hitting our beveled glass storm door.

We hid in fear. We later checked the porch and saw no evidence of a bomb or bullet. With some Google searches, we learned that some of the tempered glass in Larson doors can have defects that may produce an explosion at any given time, even 10-20 years later. The explosion damaged our Fiberglass front door, bent the frame of the storm door, and knocked over a 40 pound potted plant.

Glass shot out 15-20 feet. Our door had a Limited Lifetime Warranty, but the Larson reps were quick to point out it didn't cover glass replacement, even though the defect was THEIR FAULT. They wouldn't even cover the bent frame that held in the glass and were overall extremely rude. They cared nothing about the trauma we experienced, only making sure they were responsible for nothing.

We had an 8-month come in and out of that door the same evening, and had it exploded while humans were near the door, we fear there would have been some serious injuries. The next morning, we learned 2 sets of neighbors and heard the explosion and were wondering what happened. One neighbor was 3 doors down.

We will never buy another Larson product after being treated with such rudeness. BUYERS BEWARE.

Reason of review: Damaged or defective.

Monetary Loss: $350.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Same thing happened to me last night. Duane Brown Hanover PA

For those who think tempered glass does not just explode on its own...Anderson had recalls for patio doors that did this. Especially in high outdoor heat with a/c running.

So yes.

It DOES happen. When mine did it on a 94 degree day they replaced it without question and told me it was a known issue.

How long of a warranty is on the patio door and glass

You are completely misinformed. Tempered glass is simply that.

Tempered glass. There is no way glass just exploded on its own. IDC what you've been told- period.

I've been in glass replacements for 12 yrs and this absolutely doesn't happen on its own. So if you really approached Larson with that line of bull, I hope they laughed you off of the phone.

I'm not sure who this "Anonymous" commenter is. I setup an appointment/call for Friday morning, 01/18/19, and did not receive a call.

Yeah, I got duped. Should have known Larson Doors has no interest in settling anything.

And now I get a scammer. :/

The heck with rudeness ; I'd be more worried about glass doors. Anything can happen with glass, I had a car window explode right by my head while sitting in a dealership parking lot. Get something solid and never worry again.
